Innovatium strengthens Board to support next stage in its growth journey
Two new Non-Executive Directors have been appointed to the Board of Scottish low carbon innovation company Innovatium. The addition of the industry heavy-weights will support the firm as it gathers pace on its ambitious growth and commercialisation journey.
Joining the Board are Derek Mathieson, who was previously a member of the executive team of US-based energy technology company Baker Hughes, and Giulio Contaldi who is the owner and CEO of leading compressed air technology firm Mattei Group.
Mr Mathieson, introduced to the company by Kelvin Capital, and Mr Contaldi are both highly experienced industry players, each bringing a wealth of expertise in delivering growth for technology-led brands. The existing Board believes these key appointments will bring deep-domain expertise to the Innovatium business as well as seasoned commercial expertise and access to new networks, partners and potential customers.
Glasgow-based Innovatium develops technology solutions to meet the challenges of industrial decarbonisation, energy security and energy resilience. Its ‘game changing’ PRISMA Liquid Air Battery technology stores energy in liquid air form, providing clients with up to 30% in annual energy savings as well as hours of back-up energy storage.

Innovatium is a recent recipient of a grant under Phase 9 of the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund (EEF) whichis administered by the new Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and also a SPARK grant from the Net Zero Technology Centre. The company has also previously received funding to support the development and commercialisation of its PRISMA technology under the Government’s Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA) programme. The company was recently crowned the winner of the ‘innovating Scotland Award’ at last year’s VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards.
