Biotangents are winners of the ‘Best Start-Up of 2020’ award by IHS Markit Animal Health.

The IHS Markit Animal Health Awards 2020 put a spotlight on innovation and growth made by companies of all sizes and from different geographies during 2020. The winners in each category showed ingenuity and growth in a year of restrictions and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biotangents won the award as a result of our approach to unmet diagnostic needs, developing lab-quality molecular tests for infectious diseases that can be used in the vet clinic and on the farm to deliver results in less than three hours.

In 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Biotangents continued to innovate and add value to our business. We completed development of our first commercial product, AmpliSpec™ LAB BVD, and performed independent trials to generate validation data supporting launch in Q1 2021. We started our project to bring a molecular diagnostic for mastitis to the farm and veterinary clinic with research support from the Roslin Institute and funding from CIEL. We were successful in securing funding from the Scottish Government’s Early-Stage Growth Challenge Fund and are seeking to close a Series A investment by the second quarter 2021.

CEO Alan Hale commented: “Biotangents have created a diagnostic technology which has the ability to overcome key challenges facing the animal health and agriculture industries. The provision of our solution will improve animal welfare, sustainability and profitability while supporting the drive towards net zero emissions. We are delighted that IHS Markit Animal Health have acknowledged the potential of our technology with this award.”
